add video playlist Smoke and flames can be seen rising from Kabul's international airport following an attack by insurgents. The attackers took up positions inside a partially constructed building next to the international airport, interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said, and fought Afghan security forces for about four hours before the raid ended. Attacks on the heavily guarded airport, used by civilians and the military, are relatively rare and represent an ambitious target for insurgents, with recent assaults staged against less well-protected targets. While it did not escalate dramatically, Monday's assault will add to mounting concerns over how Afghan security forces will cope with an intensifying insurgency once most foreign combat troops leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014. Smoke and flames can be seen rising from Kabul's international airport following an attack by insurgents. A NASA Mars Curiosity rover team member gives an update on developments and status of the planetary exploration mission. The Mars Science Laboratory spacecraft delivered Curiosity to its target area on Mars at 1:31:45 a.m. EDT on Aug. 6, 2012 which includes the 13.8 minutes needed for confirmation of the touchdown to be radioed to Earth at the speed of light. The rover will conduct a nearly two-year prime mission to investigate whether the Gale Crater region of Mars ever offered conditions favorable for microbial life. Curiosity carries 10 science instruments with a total mass 15 times as large as the science payloads on NASA's Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity. Some of the tools, such as a laser-firing instrument for checking rocks' elemental composition from a distance, are the first of their kind on Mars. Curiosity will use a drill and scoop, which are located at the end of its robotic arm, to gather soil and powdered samples of rock interiors, then sieve and parcel out these samples into the rover's analytical laboratory instruments.

South Africa's President Jacob Zuma urges everyone to pray for Nelson Mandela as the 94-year-old is taken back to hospital. The former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, has been taken back to hospital suffering from a lung infection. President Jacob Zuma confirmed that the 94-year-old was readmitted just before midnight on Wednesday and said: "We appeal to the people of South Africa and the world to pray for our beloved Madiba and his family and to keep them in their thoughts. "We have full confidence in the medical team and know that they will do everything possible to ensure recovery." Mr Mandela's spokesman Mac Maharaj told Sky News that the former president was "conscious". He said: "At the moment doctors are saying it is a recurrence of an old lung infection. It is a matter of concern ... He was admitted around midnight last night. "They are doing everything they can to keep him comfortable and happy." He said that last time he had seen Mr Mandela he had been frail but in a "good frame of mind". Mr Mandela spent 18 days in hospital in December, where he was treated for a lung infection and gallstones. He was discharged on December 27, however, doctors warned he was "not yet fully recovered" and he continued to receive medical treatment at his Johannesburg home, including being given extra oxygen. Mr Mandela has had recurring lung problems since contracting tuberculosis in 1988, during his 27 years in prison under the apartheid regime. The Nobel Peace Laureate spent a night in hospital on March 9 for what was described as a scheduled medical check-up. However, Sky News' Special Correspondent Alex Crawford said that it was now understood that the visit was required for further treatment of the lung infection and that on that occasion he is believed to have had his lungs drained. She said that there were now significant concerns over his health and added: "The time of his hospitalisation certainly suggests they were alarmed at his deterioration. In February, Mr Mandela's granddaughters showed the first picture of him to be seen in more than seven months as they promoted a reality television series in which they star. He was seen with his great grandson, Zen, sitting on his lap at his Johannesburg home.

2 Americans Dead In Afghanistan Insider Attack Leaves 2 U.S. Soldiers Dead KABUL, March 11 (Reuters) - Two American soldiers were killed in a so-called insider attack when a person in an Afghan military uniform turned his weapon on U.S. and Afghan forces at a joint base in the restive east of the country, coalition forces said on Monday. Three policemen and two Afghan army officers were also killed in the attack, said a senior police official. The attack took place as a deadline expired for U.S. special forces to quit the eastern province of Wardak, after Afghan President Hamid Karzai accused them and Afghans working for them of overseeing torture and killings in the area. An Afghan interior ministry official said the attack occurred in Jalriz district of Wardak. It was not immediately clear if it was directed at U.S. special forces. U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, who left Afghanistan early on Monday after a three-day visit, raised the sensitive issue of Wardak when he met Karzai. U.S. forces have denied involvement in any abuses in Wardak. Hagel sounded hopeful that a deal could be reached on their continued deployment, but acknowledged no breakthroughs were made in his talks with Karzai. Afghans are divided over their expulsion, saying the departure of the U.S. special forces could leave a vacuum for insurgents to fill, which would pose a security risk for nearby Kabul. Incidents involving Afghan security forces turning their weapons on the NATO-led forces who train them and fight Taliban insurgents have increased sharply over the past year. The insider, or green-on-blue, attacks have seriously eroded trust between coalition and Afghan forces, who are under mounting pressure to contain the insurgency before most foreign troops leave by the end of next year.
